Catching Up With Ferguson’s Favorite Fall Shows
Students are getting into the Halloween spirit by watching their favorite fall-themed television programs as the weather cools and the leaves begin to fall. These shows, varying from haunting mysteries to popular classics, help set the tone for the season and make fall more enjoyable and cozy for all.
Sophomore Montserrat de la Osa has always loved the classic charm of The Addams Family, but she’s been really enjoying the new Netflix Original series Wednesday, as well. “I love the show because it brings the family into a fresh, spooky world, but it still has that weird, fun energy that makes it feel like Halloween,” she said. “It’s a little darker and more dramatic than the old cartoons, but it’s really fun to watch, and it kind of reminds me of the old shows I grew up with.” For Montserrat, the series is the perfect mix of nostalgia and something new.
Some people enjoy the eerie feeling of being watched in this season. Senior Isabella Jaramillo loves the Netflix Original show, You. “I love how scary it is, but also so comforting in its dim lighting and sophisticated dialogue.” You has literary and murder mystery plots that intrigue both crime and comfort watchers.
“I think Gilmore Girls is such a popular comfort show because the fall outfits and small-town vibes the show begins with can put anyone in a seasonal mood,” says senior Victoria Haber. This show’s popularity has grown, not only for its famous characters, but also for its association with the fall season, as people continue watching into the winter season.
IB Film teacher, Dr. Juan Moreno, shared how he loves both new scary shows and the older classics, but one stands out to him the most: The Exorcist. “I think the best horror show of all time is The Exorcist. It’s especially terrifying if you’re religious, since it’s rooted in faith. Honestly, I believe it’s the scariest show ever made,” he expressed. Watching the show every Halloween has become a tradition for him. The show’s supernatural vibe is definitely memorable.
From funny comedies to spooky thrillers, students and teachers have all kinds of favorite Halloween shows. Some watch them for nostalgia, some for laughs, and some just for a good scare, but all of these shows help make fall feel extra cozy and fun, both at school and at home.
