Homecoming Spirit Week Hype Starts Here
As Homecoming slides around the corner, not only can students think about suits and dresses, but also about what they can wear to this upcoming Homecoming Spirit Week.
Starting on the week of October 6th, there will be five days of dressing up, as students are allowed to wear outfits from different themes. Beginning on Monday, the theme of the day will be Superhero Day (Marvel vs. DC). On this day, students can come to school sporting either a Marvel or D.C costume that can include wearing a cape, wig, superhero shirt, a character onesie, and many other things. However, as with everything, some clothes are not permitted. This includes the obvious: no masks, PJs, or full-face paintings. There will also be additional restrictions, so please refer to the Instagram post for further confirmation. All aside, this day will for sure bring out the true fans of both competing universes.
On the second day of Spirit week, Tuesday, October 7th, camouflage will be in style as on this day, students will be allowed to wear camouflage clothing. To participate in the event, students can wear forest clothing like cargo pants, camo T-shirts, and of course, sunglasses and more. However, clothing like masks, tank tops, skirts, hoods, leggings, and more will not be permitted for this event. During this spirit week day, Ferguson will look like it just emerged from the forest.
That’s not all for the week, though. Beginning Wednesday, October 8th, students will be able to wear outfits representing iconic duos such as Mario and Luigi or Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Costumes can include clothing like half-face paintings, wigs, character T-shirts, accessories, and character onesies. But students must remember not to wear costume items like the ones that were mentioned, which were prohibited. Even though Mickey Mouse and Mario are very iconic characters, everyone has their own favorite, and on Wednesday, the school will be buzzing with school spirit and pride.
If you ever wanted to feel like you stepped into a time machine back in time, you can participate in Decades Day during Spirit Week. Decades Day will be held on Thursday, October 9th, and the attire is based on the different grade levels. For Freshmen, students will dress like they are in the 70s, while Sophomores will dress like they went back to the 80s. Heading on to the older side of students, juniors will dress like they stepped out from the 90s, and to top it off and put a cherry on top, seniors will dress like they went back in time to the 2000s. As with the other days, the yeses and nos about what to dress like remain mostly the same, with a few exceptions, including yes to track suits but no to sweatpants.
Finally, the theme of the last day of spirit week for Homecoming will be Color Wars, held on Friday, October 10th. In this event, students can dress like they are heading to a casino. Costumes can include Half Face Paintings (Streaks or Dots only), bandannas that cannot be worn on the face, colored tee-shirts, and more. Costumes cannot include, however, full face paintings, leggings, hoods, skirts, jorts, tank tops, or any other prohibited clothing listed on the event guidelines.
Even though spirit week hasn’t begun yet, many students already have their plans for the week planned. Katalina Roman, a sophomore at Ferguson, is already prepared for spirit week as she knows what outfits she’s wearing and which days she’s dressing up for. Katalina also states that she wanted to dress up for spirit week, as she’s tired of wearing the school uniform constantly. As many people know, most students are not particularly fond of wearing a school uniform, as it is strictly enforced and expected to be worn every day. With this rule, students feel like they can’t express themselves and have to be like everyone else. In fact, most students wish they could dress to show who they really are and what makes them unique among the 4000 students here at Ferguson.
Paula Boniche, a 10th grader, stated she is gleeful to participate in spirit week. She commented that this is her first time participating in spirit week, and she plans to dress for camouflage day and iconic duo day, where she plans to dress up with her sister.
“Everyone should dress up because dressing up loosens up a person, and it takes you out of your comfort zone and makes you branch out. You can also form friendships with people who dress up and have a conversation with them.” Paula says.
Even though homecoming is coming fast, spirit week is approaching faster, and before thinking about the dance, students should show Falcon pride and have fun with friends while dressing up.
